The proposal is a multi-purpose object protected by a translucent roof that invites the sky. An orthogonal grid of pillars and arches punctuates the site, evoking the memory of ancient railway stations. The interior space is a garden, occupied all year round, versatile, and flexible, designed for a city that embraces the future without forgetting its past. There are no defined uses, only possibilities, a new way of inhabiting the city in continuous symbiosis with nature – a “Garden Pavilion”. The building embraces the idea of a terminal station, creating a new entrance to the city and inviting permanence.

The Pavilion is a combination of solidity and lightness, the brick structure is a result of industrial constructive techniques, materializing in light and elegant arches. Its transparency allows permeability and relationship with the surroundings, promoting its integration with the existing urban structure and extending the Mittlerer Schlossgarten. Inside, a lush garden grows in constant change throughout the seasons, occupied all year round with various functions, transforming and adapting with the needs of the growing modern city. It can encompass children’s playgrounds, cafes, picnic areas, sports events, restaurants, cultural events, workshops, concerts, music festivals, nightclubs, or art exhibitions.

The roof, designed with a mesh of photovoltaic glass openings, naturally illuminates the interior, and ensures thermal balance, cooling the space through natural ventilation in the summer and preserving the interior temperature in the winter. The excess rainwater, collected in a pond, can be used for irrigation and recreational activities. Integration of native plant and tree species ensures easy maintenance and a continuum of the local biome while also contributing to a carbon neutral footprint.

The proposal is a new public space for Stuttgart, with a forest that can be enjoyed all year round, a symbol for a new era – an emerging future where nature must become the protagonist.
